New Discoveries in Keynsham

May 2008

A new Discovery Card issue point is up and running in Keynsham, offering Bath & North East Somerset residents the opportunity to sign up for discounts to attractions across the district.

Discovery Cards are available, free of charge, to all Bath & North East Somerset residents.  The Council is now operating a new machine in its offices at Riverside, Temple Street, Keynsham, to enable people to get free admission to the Roman Baths and Fashion Museum in Bath and discounts at other attractions in the district.

The Council launched the Discovery Card five years ago and cards can also be obtained at the Roman Baths in Bath and The Hollies in Midsomer Norton.  Just over 34,000 cards have been issued to date, providing residents with free entry to Council-run museums, plus discounted entry to the Thermae Bath Spa and a wide range of independent museums.

This new facility at Riverside completes an initiative to make the Discovery Card available throughout the area.

“The availability of cards in Keynsham has been the Council’s desire since it was first introduced and has been my personal aspiration for the past two years.” said Councillor Charles Gerrish (Conservative, Keynsham North) Cabinet Member for Customer Services.  “This enhancement will provide a valuable service in Keynsham. The Council continues to support local heritage attractions to ensure that Bath and North East Somerset is a vibrant place to live for all its residents.”

The Discovery Card is available to adults and children aged over 14, who permanently live inside the boundaries of Bath & North East Somerset. To obtain a card, residents should provide proof of residency, such as a Council Tax bill, and proof of ID, such as a passport. Staff at either Riverside, the Roman Baths or The Hollies will take a photograph to be used on the card, which will be issued immediately and is valid for three years.

Keynsham Riverside is open on Monday - Thursday 8.30am - 5pm (Wednesday 9.30am opening) and Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm.

Further information is also available by searching for Discovery Cards on the Council’s website at http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/ or to apply by post, please send a self-addressed envelope to Discovery Card, Pump Room, Stall Street, Bath, BA1 1LZ.
