Roman Baths open late
Museum late! and Comic Relief at the Roman
Baths
February 2011
As part of a host of events taking place
during the half term week, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s
Roman Baths are helping to celebrate the year of the museum by
linking up with Comic Relief and Bath Spa University for a special
late night opening.
On Thursday 24 February, the Baths will be
open until 9.00pm with last admission at 8.00pm.The evening will
begin outside the Stall Street entrance with an entertaining but
undisclosed event organised by the Council and Bath Spa University
in aid of Comic Relief, taking place between 6.00 and 8.00pm.
Inside the Roman Baths, there will also be an
opportunity to see the new displays and developments on the site,
the chance to meet costumed characters and sample Roman food
prepared by expert demonstrators.
Stephen Clews, Manager of the Bath & North
East Somerset Council run Roman Baths, said: ‘It has been great
working with Bath Spa University and the Comic Relief Charity to
arrange this event. Heritage and the creative arts go hand in hand.
People will see the Pump Room in a way they have never seen it
before. I can’t imagine what Thomas Baldwin who built it would
think!’
The evening is free to local residents with
Discovery Cards, otherwise normal admission charges apply. The
on-street activity is free to all.
Cllr Terry Gazzard, Cabinet Member for Leisure
and Tourism said:
‘Bath & North East Somerset Council is
incredibly proud of our world class arts and heritage. This
evening’s event brings together good humour, charitable purpose,
the creative energy of a local university, a museum of high quality
and the setting of a beautiful historic building. It is there for
all to enjoy.’
