Roman Baths awarded for excellence by TripAdvisor
July 2012
The Roman Baths, which is run by Bath &
North East Somerset Council, has been awarded a Certificate of
Excellence by the online review site TripAdvisor for consistently
earning exceptional ratings from visitors.
Christine Petersen, President of
TripAdvisor for Business, said that the award was presented to the
Roman Baths as a testament to its high standards.
She said: “We’re proud to recognise the
Roman Baths for earning exceptional traveller ratings over the past
year. The Certificate of Excellence honours businesses that
consistently earn top ratings from travellers. With a rating of 4.5
(out of 5), the Roman Baths has earned a place among the very best.
This award, which is given only to the most exceptional performers
in TripAdvisor’s global business community, is a significant
achievement deserving of recognition.”
Councillor Cherry Beath (Lib-Dem, Combe
Down), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: “We are
thrilled by this award as the high traveller ratings are completely
independent and show that visitors have a terrific time at the
Roman Baths whatever time of year they visit.
“It reflects Bath & North East Somerset
Council’s commitment to keeping the Roman Baths a favourite among
visitors by making improvements such as modern interpretation,
helping people to imagine life in Roman Bath; conservation that
improves the look of the monument and protects it for future
generations, and a wide range of access measures including new
lifts and inclusive interpretation. These recent improvements have
helped the Roman Baths to have its most successful year, in terms
of visitor numbers, for a generation.”
The TripAdvisor website encourages tourists
to comment on and rate the places they visit to help others
research and plan their own trips. The comments made on the site by
visitors to the Roman Baths include:
“One of the best museum experiences I’ve
had.”
“This was our highlight of our trip to
Bath. We were there for a lot longer than expected, there is a lot
to see and do … We went early evening in July, when they are open
until 10 and there was no queue to get in.”
“Well worth using the audio devices, kept
the kids engaged for the whole journey. Interactive displays and
Romans in costume and character adds to it all. Well worth a
visit.”
This latest award follows on from the Roman
Baths’ triumphs earlier this year with a Silver Merit Award of
Excellence from the Irish tourism industry and a Highly Commended
for offering Access for All in the South West Tourism Excellence
Awards.
