COVID-19: Advice for visitors to the Roman Baths

We're delighted to let you know our doors will be opening again on 6th July. 2,000 years of history are waiting for you to come and explore! Tickets will be available online very soon - all tickets will need to be purchased in advance. There will be a few changes to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit....but you can still expect an experience steeped in history! Look out for further updates here on when tickets will go on sale and what you can expect on your visit.

It’s been a period of monumental change here at the Roman Baths over the last few months: we closed our doors for the first time in 123 years, we shifted to a digital-first approach sharing our collection and site with our audiences across the world, we grappled with the ‘new normal’ of remote working as our staff adapted to working from home, and we’ve faced unprecedented challenges in the sector.

While the future ahead is tinged with uncertainty and things have changed, some things never do change. The Roman Baths is just as extraordinary as it has always been; the thermal springs and the Baths have continued to flow with natural hot water and the remarkably preserved remains of 2,000 years of history have been waiting to be discovered and explored!  We look forward to welcoming you back to walk in the footsteps of Ancient Romans very soon.

During this time, we’ve been busy monitoring the latest Government and industry guidelines and making plans to reopen. While we don’t have confirmed dates for reopening yet, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes implementing new measures to ensure the safety of visitors and staff whenever we can open our doors again.

We’ll be reducing visitor numbers so people can maintain physical distancing throughout the site and moving to pre-booked reservation slots only, including for Discovery Card and Annual Pass Holders. Tickets and reservation slots will become available online once we have confirmed opening dates but there will be limited availability. In the meantime, you can purchase our gift tickets which are valid for 18 months. We’ll also be introducing a new one-way route throughout the museum with hand sanitisation stations readily available.

While your visit may look a little different, you can still expect an experience steeped in history! And you’ll still be greeted by a smiling team who can’t wait to welcome you. In the meantime, thank you for staying engaged with our digital channels – keep an eye on our social media channels for upcoming competitions and the latest updates on the collection. We’ll also be updating our website soon with more details about what to expect when you visit.

Update: 1st May 2020

Any visitors with pre-booked tickets to the Roman Baths up to 30th June will be automatically refunded. Please allow 30 working days for the funds to show on your account. You will receive an automated email once your refund has been processed.

As our plans for reopening become clearer, we will be in touch with visitors with pre-booked tickets after 30th June. However, in the meantime if you would like a refund or to rebook for a later date, then please email [email protected].
