The Ancient History Express with George Sharpley

Warning

The date for this event has passed. Please check What's on for current events.

A ‘little Latin’ is needed for this two-day course – a natural follow-on from George Sharpley’s day for Latin beginners.

On the first day we visit Rome in the early days of legends, Hannibal and Carthage, the 1st century BC of Caesar, Pompey, Cicero, Mark Antony and Octavian (Augustus). The second day of the journey takes us into imperial Rome of the emperors who followed Augustus, and the lives of people in Rome and in the provinces (in particular Britain).

The whistlestop tour slows down at regular intervals to a much gentler pace in order to read short selections of Latin written by the classical authors, which illustrate each historical period.

Please call 01225 477773 to book. £80.00 per person, £10.00 discount to Discovery Card holders and concessions. The cost of the weekend includes all materials and tea, coffee and biscuits.

** fully booked but do call to express interest as there may be places available on the same course when we re-run it in February 2017 **
