Saturnalia was the most popular holiday in the Roman year and marked the winter solstice from 17 to 23 December. It shared many similarities with modern-day festivities and was an occasion for celebrating, visiting friends, decorating homes with greenery, lighting candles, and exchanging gifts.
For young history enthusiasts, the Saturnalia trail (21 – 31 December) provides an exciting journey through Roman holiday traditions, including gift-giving, home decorating, and festive feasting. Trail is included in admission.
