Visiting guidance during Coronavirus

We're good to go! 

We've acquired the industry accreditation from Visit England to verify that we've met government and industry COVID-19 guidelines so you can feel assured on your visit. 

We look forward to welcoming you back to walk in the footsteps of Ancient Romans! While some things have changed, some things remain the same. Your visit will look a little different but you can still expect an experience steeped in history! 

We’ve taken steps in line with government and industry guidance to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. We've reduced our visitor numbers so people can maintain physical distancing throughout the site and moved to pre-booked reservation slots only, including for Discovery Card and Annual Pass Holders. We won't be accepting any group visits for the time being, until such time that we can safely welcome groups again. In line with Government legislation, you can only move around the site in a group of six people or less.

We’ve also introduced a new one-way route throughout the museum with plenty of hand sanitisation stations available, and offer dedicated sessions for visitors with additional access needs. You can find out more about our accessibility arrangements here.

The Pump Room Restaurant is now open serving a morning menu and afternoon tea. You will be able to visit our shop and choose from a range of quality gifts, many with a Roman and Georgian flavour!

Face coverings are required in museum indoor areas and the shop, unless you have a special exemption. You will not be required to wear a face covering in open outdoor areas such as the Great Bath and the Terrace.

Timeslots for everyone

To ensure we can manage capacity safely, all visitors will now need to pre-book a ticket/ reservation slot on our website in advance, including Discovery Card and Annual Pass Holders. Unfortunately, we simply won’t be able to allow entry to those without a pre-booked ticket/reservation slot or anyone who arrives outside of their timeslot.

If you’re a Discovery Card holder, your entry will still be free, but you’ll now need to book in a reservation slot on our website and present this on arrival with your Discovery Card. We’re also offering free entry to all local B&NES residents. Please find out more information here.

Looking after you on your visit

We’re committed to ensuring your visit is a safe and enjoyable one – for visitors, staff, and the local Bath community. We’ve implemented some new physical distancing and hygiene measures to ensure you can have the best experience possible, while feeling reassured on your visit:

  • One-way route with markers throughout  
  • New signage and signposting to help you navigate around the site safely
  • Protective screens on the reception desk and PPE for staff; all staff have been trained in new physical distancing and hygiene protocols.
  • Increasing cleaning regime across the sites including hand sanitiser at key points for you to use.
  • Careful management of areas on-site with staff in place at key points to ensure visitor flow and physical distancing.
  • One-in, One-out system for toilet facilities: only one household will be able to enter at any one time.
