Please be advised that our Life & Death in Aquae Sulis Gallery includes human remains. We have chosen to display the individual featured to tell the story about Bath's archaeology and the insights we can gain about past people from their skeletal remains.
The display of human remains in museums presents an ethical issue, which the Roman Baths Museum adheres to industry guidance, standards and advice on. We will continue to review the inclusion of human remains in our displays and make adaptations following best practice and changes in legislation.
Preserve the Heritage:
The Roman Baths are a fragile, special and protected historical monument.
- Please refrain walking on restricted areas, or disturbing the ancient structures.
- Please follow the guidance of staff as you explore. They are here to help you enjoy the site while protecting it for future generations.
Photography and Filming:
Photography is welcomed, we understand you’ll want to remember your amazing visit!
- Please avoid using tripods, on our historic pavements and be mindful of the use of selfie sticks in areas where it might disturb others.
- Please do not photograph or film staff members unless they have agreed it is OK to do so.
- For commercial photography, please seek permission in advance.
Respect for our Staff:
Our staff and volunteers work hard to make your visit enjoyable. Please treat them with respect and patience, at all times.
Respect for all:
We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcome. Discriminatory behaviour or inappropriate language, towards staff or visitors will not be tolerated.
If our staff feel that you are not behaving in a respectful manner then they may ask you to leave the site.
Share the Space:
The Roman Baths are a place for everyone’s enjoyment. During busy times, there may be some queues as you arrive and as you move around site. Please respect the queueing system and understand that some areas may have limited capacity to protect the heritage and ensure safety.
Be mindful of other visitors and try to avoid behaving in a way which detracts others from their visit.
Stay Safe:
Do not enter or touch the water in the Great Bath. It is untreated and unsuitable for bathing or drinking.
Please be aware that the pavements round the Great Bath are the original Roman pavements. They are uneven and can be slippery. Take care as you walk around our site.
Keep Children Close:
For their safety, ensure children are supervised at all times, particularly near water features and uneven surfaces.
Emergency Response:
In the event of an emergency, follow the instructions of staff promptly.
First-aid assistance is available on-site if required.
By following this charter, you contribute to the preservation and enjoyment of the Roman Baths for all who visit. Thank you for your support.
We hope you have a memorable and enjoyable experience!
