Women of Roman Britain - talk by Lindsay Allason-Jones, OBE

Uncover the lives of women in Romano-British society using archaeological artefacts and inscriptions.

The Roman Conquest transformed Iron Age Britain into a province of a global, cosmopolitan empire. How did British women such as Regina, a Catuvellaunian woman who married a Syrian, or the aristocratic Julia Lucilla, who came from Rome with her military husband when he was posted to High Rochester, adapt to their new lives? This talk uses inscriptions and archaeological finds to piece together the lives of women throughout Romano-British society.

Tickets are £10, and the talk will take place in the elegant surroundings of The Pump Room.
